Chosen for the Battle: A Lesson in Standing When You Feel Overwhelmed
Have you ever gotten to the point where you just felt overwhelmed? For every step you take, you feel like you’re being pushed back ten steps?
Last week, I was there.
I just needed my child to go to school. It was one of those mornings when I didn’t want him to see me break down. I needed the house to myself to scream, yell, and just release. But of course, it wasn’t happening. My son was home, my sister wasn’t answering her phone, and the frustration boiled over.
In a moment of raw emotion, I let loose on my seventeen-year-old. I told him, “If you don’t listen to me, how am I supposed to help you? You think you know everything at 17.” You want me to fix everything, but you don’t listen to the voice that may know more.”
He left for school shortly after, but not before we calmed down and exchanged our normal “I love yous.” I apologized for yelling, but the feeling of being completely overwhelmed remained.
The Lifeline: Getting Out of Your Own Head
In that moment, I knew I needed to get out of my own head. I reached out to a fellow empowerment coach in my mastermind group. During our call, I poured out my heart—my tiredness, my frustration that every struggle feels like a fight.
I told her, “I can never give up. I have my children; they are my second reason for breath. But I am just so tired of fighting.”
She then shared her devotional from Ephesians 6 and asked me a question that shifted everything:
“Have you ever considered the reason why you were chosen for this battle?”
The question was a direct echo from my past. In 2004, after a significant loss, I had screamed out at Elohim/God for two hours. The next morning, He sent my mentor, who asked me: “How can you work with my children? How can you assist my daughters if I don’t take you through their battles so you can understand them?”
The Real Meaning of the Armor of Elohim/God
Ephesians 6 tells us to put on the whole armor of Elohim (God). But my friend pointed out a detail I’d never fully considered: the armor only covers the “front” of you.
Why?
Because when you have on the full armor of Elohim/God, you are not meant to turn and flee. You are not meant to fight with your own strength. You are commanded to stand.
The armor doesn’t cover your back because Yahweh/the LORD Himself covers your back. He fights your battles. Your only job is to stand firm, trusting that He is your rear guard.
The verse says, “Weapons will form, but they won’t prosper.” Why? Because you are not the one fighting. You are standing in trust, knowing that the I AM will be everything you need, exactly when you need it, according to His schedule—not a moment too late.
We don’t fight; we stand, resting in Him as our strong tower.
The Promise of the Rain: A Prophecy of Abundance
Later that same day, I spoke with a sister in my ministry. She was reading a weather ticker about increasing rain and felt it was a prophecy. We understood that biblical rain symbolizes the latter and former rains mentioned in Joel 2—it brings life, teaching, and blessings.
Right now, it might feel like a drought in the middle of the battle. But battles don’t last forever. Victory always comes, and with it, abundance. So, I accept the rain. I expect it to nourish my ground and fill my storehouses.
You Are Seen; You Are Not Alone
We all go through battles and storms. Sometimes you will feel like you’re in a deep pit, all alone. But one of Elohim/God’s great attributes is El Roi —the Elohim/God who sees me.
He sees you. He guides you with His eyes. Darkness cannot hide you from Him. Even if you didn’t place yourself in your current situation, He knows where you are. At His appointed time, He will rescue you and bless you.
He created you for such a time as this. In your struggles, He is building your spiritual muscles so you can later go forth and help someone else. Every battle is a lesson that prepares you to teach those who come behind you.
My Lesson to You
So, my lesson for you today is this: Hold on. Be strong.
There’s a change in the air. We can weather this. We can stand through this because we are not fighting. We do not fight against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces. And that is not our job—it’s Yahweh’s.
He sends His ministering angels to protect you. He asks you to stand while He fights for you.
So stand, my brothers and sisters. Knowing this battle is not yours. It is Yahweh’s / the LORD’s.
