Celebrating Freedom: My Journey to Self-Discovery
Ten years ago today, I received my freedom. Freedom from manipulation. Freedom from bondage, mental and financial abuse! Yes, there were wars I still needed to fight. I had wounds that needed to heal. I took the first step in defining a life my sons wouldn’t be ashamed of. I broke the steps in the legacy of women who were left broken. I took the first step in Defining Me!
My ex tried to imprison and shackled me to make me think I was worthless. As a mother with two medically complicated young boys, no one would want me. As a woman whose family has written her off, she has no one who would want her. During our fifteen years of marriage, he misunderstood my Silence. He saw it as a sign of my failure. He took my Compliance as a sign of my obedience.
His Mistake!
My Silence was my Strength in my belief. I trusted in my Heavenly Father to guide us. He will protect and lead my sons and me to something better.
My Compliance was an Observation into every deceitful and hurtful trick and trap the ex laid against me.
Strength allowed me to build my gifts and talents in Silence quietly. He sought to diminish these with his hateful words.
The Compliance gave way to the Observance of my skills. These skills were needed to launch my company. They were also necessary to write my book and claim my voice.
Ten years ago today, I took the first steps on the path that led me to become who I am. I celebrated the first of many victories.
Remember, your past doesn’t get to dictate your future. Yet your past helps define who you are becoming. Take the first step. Even if it’s just a baby step, take it. Every step is your step toward a brighter, more beautiful you!
